How to set up a VPN connection
Purpose of a VPN connection:
By using a VPN connection, you receive an IP address within the network address space of the university. This allows you to access restricted services when you are not on campus (e.g. library catalogs or databases).
Installing the VPN client
Please install the GlobalProtect VPN client, wich is free of charge, on your device. We recommend using a private device. If you want to use a company notebook, you need administrator rights on this device.
Depending what kind of device you are using (notebook, phone, tablet), you can find the installation files at different places.
- For desktop operation systems, you can download the installation files at the WU Controlpanel application. Please select the menu items > “Other WU services” > “VPN at WU“.
- You can also go to this website https://vpn.wu.ac.at/ – to log in to this page please use your h+Student-ID and your WIFI password. You can find your WIFI Password either on your Account Datasheet or you need to set it at the WU Controlpanel application. Go here for more information on how to change your WIFI password.
